FIRE CALL

A quick glimpse of smoke and fire
at a neighbor's home brought screams
from the children, awaking their dad;
disturbing his much happier dreams.

He heard the fire call on his radio
as he hurriedly dressed to go out,
trying to calm his wife and children
but their tears showed a little doubt.

Into the bitter cold night he went,
his wife's words echoing in his ear;
"Be careful, darling - I'll watch for you.
and send the family right over here!"

In the chaos that followed the fire call,
the street seemed to fill with firemen
who pulled the hoses from the trucks
and started spraying the house, then

The neighbor rushed up to the Chief,
screaming for her little son Roy.
The others were all out of the house
but there was not a sign of the boy.

A firefighter doesn't hesitate when
the life of a small child is at stake;
One went in and came out with the boy,
and that's how a hero we make.

The courage and determination is there
in the beat of every firefighter's heart;
When a fire call comes in, they go again,
each man praying another won't start.

Some give up their lives in the fires,
Some will save the life of someone;
A fireman's creed is to be there in need
and battle the flames when they come.
