A poem is about the absence of my mother when I was growing up to our current day and age.
Five years upon this earth,
And all that I ever knew
Fell apart at an instant
All because of you.

I didn’t understand
What was going on.
I was so innocent
And all at once, you were gone.

Throughout the lonely years
I longed to be with you.
I needed your love and acceptance
In this life to guide me through.

Then, at eleven years old
I thought that my wish had come true.
But, again I was disappointed
Because all you cared for, was you.

Eighteen years later,
And we live only thirty minutes apart
I haven’t heard from you in over a year,
And you’re still breaking my heart.

Although I do not know how it is
To have the love of a mother,
My beautiful children
Will always know a love like no other.
