BUDDIES

Water lapped the edge of the shore
in silent testimony of nature's call;
He chose the night to walk alone
for he had dreams not shared by all.

So lost this soul who walked alone,
not knowing which way to turn -
Depression causing tears to flow,
remorseful heart seemed to burn.

Up ahead, the old dog sat alone,
watching the aged man trudge on;
A wag of tail, a perk of ears,
he waited there in the coming dawn.

The man saw the dog and smiled
(for what he needed was a friend)
and he began whistling a tune,
starting to feel almost young again.

The dog got up and slowly came near
to the outreached hand of the man;
he was almost smiling, as a dog will do,
and a great new friendship soon began.

Now late at night they walk together
and as anyone can very plainly see;
They are buddies, this man and dog,
both are finally loved, sadness free.
