Insight into an everyday relationship.
"I am so confused," she said as they walked down the sidewalk bathed in watery reflections. He kept his eyes on the wet pavement, waiting. "I'm angry at myself, for not knowing, not understanding what is happening. I just wish someone would tell me what I am doing wrong. I don't even know myself anymore. I don't know who to become."
It was late in the evening; the rain had hurried most passerbys into stores or restaurants. They didn't care about the rain though, one seldom does when in such a conversation.
She didn't speak for a while. He kept his steady pace, glancing at her from time to time with his almost black eyes. She resumed her train of thought, "I want...I have no idea." They were nearing a damp park on the right, making their way across the street they walked towards it.
He didn't know what to say yet, and he knew silence might be the only response she wanted, so he waited. "Almost everything irritates, annoys, yet fascinates me. It's as if I am so distant, yet in the midst of people I can't understand." She paused then stammered, "Its all such an act! I'm such an act.".
The benches were now painted in rain, but they sat down regardless. She stared straight, his eyes fell slightly downward, she looked at him and he felt it; he looked the opposite direction. "Tell me," she said. "Tell me. You always know what I'm thinking. You listen, but I never know what thoughts race through your mind..." He was reluctant to talk.
Wanting to keep the conversation on her he asked quietly, "Why do you,...Why are you, uncomfortable?".
"Uncomfortable? Well it's raining...".
"No, I mean with yourself. With me." He couldn't look her in the eye. Silence.
"Uncomfortable with you? No, no.. I just don't know what I want right now."
He looked down and slightly tilted his head. He had always had a quiet nature, talking never came easy for him, nor was it something he was never particularly fond of. It was hard for him to capture the vast array of his emotions into words.
