Poem inspired by a rainy afternoon with a Christian theme in song lyric format.
Drowning

Powerless I stand upon the mountaintop.
Watching the rain cascade down
Misty despair embraces me
Bathing my dreams in torment, washing my hopes away.

Each morning fades into the next
Only existence lingering between.
And I can’t seem to grab a hold
Of the moments slipping through the hands of this child.

I want to sing a song written by the hands of God
But I can’t seem to find the right melody.
I’m just Eve in this angel’s clothing,
And when I open up my voice I fall silent before the Lord.

But words mean nothing to the One
Who can read my secret thoughts
Knowing my doubt, my desperation, my fear
That night in the garden and I realize that

Only you
Can bring me through this
Only you
Can drive this storm away
Only you
Can turn my drowning to baptism
And I know again that God lives underwater.

The chill wind of helplessness taunts me
Begging to tear from me my salvation
I plant my feet upon your Rock
And trust that you will weather the storm with me

Man-made chaos threatens to break me,
Hatred to overpower my resolution
I tremble inside Your fortress of faith
Invigorated and terrified, knowing that

Only you
Can bring me through this
Only you
Can drive this storm away
Only you
Can turn my drowning to baptism
And I know again that God lives underwater.

Mold me, Make me, Hold me, Take me, Use me, Teach me, Wash me, Reach me,
I know that God lives underwater.
