When you feel that you are getting nowhere ...
I don't know how to help, what to do.
She cries that no one understands,
And pushes away my helping hands
And I am left without a clue.

I tell her that she has all my heart
And that I will always be there.
But, still, she thinks that I do not care
And the sweetness we had will now depart.

She is my first-born, precious child.
I know that I have made mistakes.
Her actions, across my heart, are rakes
Tearing me up, as she acts so wild.

I tuck around her a soft, warm fleece,
These things I pray, for my little waif,
Let her be happy, healthy and safe.
Please, God, give her comfort and peace.

I brush her fringe and kiss her soft cheek.
She is the most wonderful gift.
I need to heal this widening rift,
A joining of hearts is what I seek.

She opens her eyes, and smiles at me.
Still half asleep, she whispers low
Everything that I need to know -
"Love you Mum." And my heart soars free.
