Summary of this Book...
This is the first book in the Foundling series by Wendy Corsi Staub. Though recently written, it is set in the late 80's, at least for the most part. The plot has much to do with abandoned and adopted children, the dawn of DNA profiling, and some very evil people, including a serial killer. The majority of the story is set in New York City, and the author does a good job with the descriptions of the city, but we also visit a few other locations that round out the story. Realize all the plots and sub-plots will not be neatly tied up, as the series continues with Dead Silence.
This type of Book is good for...
I believe that people who were of age in the late 1980's will appreciate this book, along with adoptees (like myself) who can relate. Also, and importantly, this book is best read over a short time frame. There is much to remember, so it's best for people who block out larger amounts of time for reading.
I especially liked...
The development of the characters, particularly the major ones, as they continue to grow throughout the book. The minor players in the book, while well described, don't have the same kind of treatment. However, ignore that at your own risk, because they may pop up again!
I didn't like...
The scene changes to me seem a bit abrupt. It's understandable that a new chapter isn't required when changing scenes, but at times it felt like too much was packed into a single one.
This Book made me feel...
As if perhaps I should have tried harder to meet my birth mother many years ago. Alas, that ship has sailed.
The author of this Book...
I enjoyed the style Staub uses in this book, even with the limitations I've noted. Her writing keeps the story moving, which is good, as most readers won't want to set it aside for long periods of time.
I recommend this Book because...
It touches on several subjects such as found children and new science, while still creating a very good crime drama. Having those interesting subjects within the book makes me recommend it.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I would not recommend this novel to people who tend to put them down for long periods. It felt to me that not keeping up with the story may cause a reader to forget or miss important items.
