Summary of this Book...
Susan has always known that she's different than others. Not too different though - that would be fluffy thinking. When faced with a skeletal rat, a talking raven and a flying horse named Binky, she remembers...

Death is missing. Someone needs to take over his duties. As if Susan isn't dealing with enough, a new type of music has taken hold, and it's changing people.

Buddy, Cliff and Glod should have known better than to purchase a guitar from a little shop that had always been there, but may not have always been there yesterday. Now Ankh-Morpork has been taken over by Music With Rocks In. Even the wizards are rocking out.

Can anyone stop it?
This type of Book is good for...
People who love fantasy, comedy and clever observations on human nature. Pratchett once more shows his deep insights into humanity, and addresses its absurdities with warmth and wit.
I especially liked...
The relationship between Susan and Death. It is beautifully explored, with all its difficulties and conflicting emotions. One can understand the loneliness of Death. Why he adopted Susan's mother. Why she wanted Susan to grow up away from it all. Family can be complex, and bonds are not always reliant on blood.

I liked the character of Albert. He seems like one of those grumpy old men, but when it comes to it he shows his loyalty in quite a touching manner.

I also liked the wizards and the functioning of the Unseen University. They brought a smile to my face.
I didn't like...
There was nothing that I didn't enjoy about this. There's a good range of well-written characters, an interesting and original storyline, and it's nicely wrapped up at the end.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
Read more of Pratchett's work. Thankfully, he has written loads of novels!
This Book made me feel...
Both reflective and uplifted. There's food for thought in there, but a lot of the time it's just a joy to read. I cannot help but smile, and sometimes even laugh out loud, when reading Pratchett's work, and Soul Music is no exception.
I recommend this Book because...
There's something for everyone. It's a good story, with some endearing characters. You may also enjoy the fun wordplay. I quite enjoyed some of the band names, for example: And You and The Whom.
Further Comments...
Whilst this is an entertaining novel for all readers, you will get more out of some of the jokes if you know a little about rock and roll music. There are references to someone seeming a bit 'elvish', for example, and some song and band names are plays on existing bands and tunes.
