Summary of this Book...
This is a great book! It's a wonderful guide that should be in every writer's toolbox. According to the author: Emotion lies within all well-written pieces, no matter the form or genre. It drives the writing forward. Without emotion, you'll probably find yourself stopping the piece pretty quickly. As readers, emotion is a way we connect with the characters. Feeling propels us, and emotion fuels our connection with others.

We need to know how to write dialogue but we also need to know how to express emotion. These can be physical symptoms, internal sensations, and mental responses. Physical signals are how our bodies outwardly respond. Mental responses act as a window into the thought process. Internal sensations are the most powerful nonverbal form of communication and should be used with caution.

When writing emotion, think about how your body responds, how you respond. What's going through your mind?

The Emotion Thesaurus gives you a never-ending list of words and actions to refer to as you write. For instance: Physical symptoms of Amazement, Internal Sensations of Amazement, Mental Responses for Amazement, Cues of long-term amazement, and cues for suppressed amazement. The list of differing emotions seems to go on and on.

I'm so glad I came across this book. It's one I will always keep close to me while writing.
