Summary of this Book...
A Magistrate who struggles with the fact that he works for an oppressive and cruel government.
I especially liked...
The message! What is freedom? What is justice? This book tackles some very hard questions, and gives you answers in its satisfying ending.
I didn't like...
Sometimes the ambiguity can be pretty tedious, but it doesn't necessarily take away from the meaning.
The author of this Book...
Coetzee is from South Africa, and you can see the blatant social commentary regarding the Apartheid in this work. He is also billed as a postmodern artist for his ability to include a stirring message in his works.
Further Comments...
Read in a Comparative Literature class.
