Summary of this Book...
a man known only as K. and his fruitless attempts to see the official in charge of his job. K. has come to the villiage to take on a surveying position, however there is no surveying work to be done. He tries unsuccesfuly to enter The Castle so he can work out his employment with the chief official,Klamm, who sees nobody, especially not newcomers like K.
I especially liked...
the third chapter, in which K. meets his fiancee, Frieda. It's hilarious in too many ways to describe here.
I didn't like...
how the novel broke off in mid-sentence.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
read more of Kafka's work. It has so many twists and turns it is no wonder his work is considered classic.
The author of this Book...
is Franz Kafka, who was born in 1883 in Prague and spent most of his adult life as an insurance official. He gained fame only posthumously. Joel Achenbach states in his "Why Things Are & Why Things Aren't": One time he found out a bookstore had sold eleven copies of his work. He bought ten, but who, he wondered, had bought the eleventh?"
I recommend this Book because...
it is entertaining and philosophical at the same time. It is a cry against the hassle and pompousnes of beaurocracy, and has both comedy and pathos.
