Summary of this DVD...
As per DVD description: "Julio and Tenoch are two teens ruled by raging hormones and a mission to consume exotic substances. But one summer, the boys learn more about life than they bargain for when they set off on a wild cross-country trip with seductive, 28-year-old Luisa. Both boys taste forbidden fruit as Luisa school them in the finer points of passion, but will their mutual desire for her destroy their friendship forever?
I especially liked...
The interrelationships between the three principle characters. Julio and Tenoch are best friends who share everything - more than they even know. Their friendship is put to the test when they meet Luisa and embark on a weekend adventure, where they learn more about themselves than they expected.
I didn't like...
Okay, I'll admit it - subtitles are never any fun. IMHO, they distract from the movie. But trust me, the film is worth the effort.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
Watch Summer of '42. I'm a sucker for coming-of-age movies.
The cast of this DVD...
Were incredible. Gael Garcia Bernal (Julio), Diego Luna (Tenoch) and Maribel Verdu (Luisa) bring a performance to the movie that brings the characters alive.
I recommend this DVD because...
It gives a fresh take on the coming-of-age theme. Unlike most current-day American movies, the nudity and sex in this movie is not gratuitous, but natural and a thing of beauty.
Further Comments...
This movie has been released in two versions: "R" and "Unrated". Make sure you see the unrated version. I've seen both, and the scenes removed from the R-rated version completely changes, and confuses, the end of the movie.
