When I first tried to watch When Harry Met Sally I was immediately turned off by the title characters. They were truly obnoxious, and I never made it past the first few scenes.

Now, years later, I'm studying romantic comedy writing. All books point to When Harry Met Sally as the classic contemporary romantic comedy. Last night I decided to bite the bullet and try it again. This time rather than being obnoxious I saw the characters for what they were - true opposites on the road to attraction. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It was unlike the typical romantic comedy in that it explored the global differences between men and women instead of simply the differences between a man and a woman. I can easily see why Nora Ephron’s screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award. This is a movie I highly recommend.
