Summary of this Book...
This book is actually a Diary that was written by a young girl, around age 15 or so, in the year 1659. It is based on 'The papers of Mary Newbury'. Her grandmother was a Witch, and so was Mary. It takes place in the Colonial times where any mere sign of WitchCraft would have you hanged or burned at the stake.

Mary kept a journal of her Journey and everything she went through, including the fact that she had to hide what she was for fear of being persecuted. Mary had to find a way to hide her journal so no one could find it and discover her secret.

This clever girl stitched a quilt, and would leave room to tuck the pages of the journal inside the quilt and stitch them in while she was alone. Decades later, someone found a quilt made from Colonial times..and they discovered 'The Mary Papers'. They found Mary Newbury's journal...and so begins this intriguing, young girl's story.
This type of Book is good for...
I found this book very educational in many aspects. It's History documented from 1659. It shows exactly how life was back then.
I especially liked...
They way the Author wrote this book. Many shocks, many unexpected turns. I couldn't put this book down. I read it in one sitting, which took me about 3 hours.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Cry. I wanted to cry because of how it ended, and because it was so intriguing, I wanted it to keep going. I wanted to know so much more.
This Book made me feel...
Many emotions. I found myself angry, disgusted, shocked, in awe, and completely floored at times. It made me feel as if I was there with Mary experiencing all that she went through by reading her words.
The author of this Book...
Celia Rees. She's a superb Author and I plan on buying more of her books.
I recommend this Book because...
It will keep you on the edge wondering what is to become of Mary Newbury. It educates quite a bit about the Colonial period and how the Witch Trials came to be. It's a book you can't put down. I even took it in the bathtub with me because I couldn't stop reading. It's intriguing and very well written.
Further Comments...
This would have to be one of the BEST books I've layed my eyes and mind on. It will still be with you for days, maybe even weeks, after reading it. Very intense.
