Summary of this Book...
Reisel had chosen the path she wished to follow when she was barely a teen. She is content with the way the path is unfolding. Fate has other plans for her, which include leaving the life she wished for and accepting a great responsibility that will change her life forever. Even though she tries to escape what fate has in store, her hand is forced when a kidnapping could result in the end of a temporary peace between her homeland and their neighbor. Reisel reluctantly takes up the symbols of her new position and gains more than she'd ever expected.
I especially liked...
I enjoyed how simple it was. The author didn't take the time to explain every little thing, but wrote as if it were already known. She very neatly wove in the information we needed through Reisel's thoughts and her reflections on various characters and their position.
I didn't like...
I was eighty pages into the book when I set it aside, determined not to read any more of it. I had found no hook to pull me in to the story and I'd read 60 pages! If I hadn't been extremely bored the next day, I might never have finished the book and I probably wouldn't have cared.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I was curious enough to look into the rest of the trilogy. If I ever get the chance to read them, I probably will, but I don't envision myself rushing out to get my hands on them.
This Book made me feel...
Content. I wasn't overly impressed by it, neither was I completely bored with it. It was an enjoyable read and passed the time once I got in to it. There were several sections I just skimmed, since they seemed pointless, but other sections were entertaining.
The author of this Book...
I believe this is her first book, but I'm not sure. I only think so because it was not the greatest book I have written and doesn't speak of much practice. Still, she has other books out and as I said, I would be willing to read them now that I care a little for the characters.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a quick easy read. If you're not looking for a masterpiece or an overly complicated fantasy story, this one is perfect. You don't even have to read the rest of the trilogy. This one managed to end itself nicely.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It took several chapters to get into it and there were several scenes when I grew bored. However, if you're willing to trudge through, the entire trilogy might prove worthwhile.
