Summary of this Book...
Nobel Prize winner Rabindrinath Tagore takes on diverse topics ranging from his hopes and dreams for his country, India, to worship, death, and friendship. Each poem is really a prayer addressed to a God with whom Tagore is obviously profoundly in love. The whole collection shines with Tagore's conviction that God will truly accept him, and all us of, that He will "Let those orphaned days that passed without You be forgotten." Tagore's work is comforting, but not in the commonplace sense of confusing faith and security. Instead, Tagore reminds us that faith is the ultimate risk: "I shall bare my breasts against the wrongs hurled at Your children and take the risk of standing by Your side, where none but You remains."
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who wants a taste of Tagore's literary genius ... you'll end up wanting more. Also, anyone who wants a creative approach to prayer and fostering intimacy with God shouldn't neglect Tagore's work.
I especially liked...
the universality of Tagore's mind. Tagore came from a Hindu background, but his humility, the joy he finds in serving God and others, his abundant love for his fellow man ... these are all qualities that transcend culture and creed.
This Book made me feel...
closer to God and more open the action of the Holy Spirit.
The author of this Book...
won the 1913 Nobel Prize in literature for his collection of poems Gitanjali or Song Offerings.
