Summary of this CDs & Vinyl...
Third of the Adiemus albums, this CD is not quite as strong as "Songs Of Sanctuary" or "Cantata Mundi," but is still quite enjoyable. A vast range of musical influences is heard here, from African and tribal music to waltzes and tangoes and even a squaredance!
This type of CDs & Vinyl is good for...
Not only inspiration, but for sampling types of music from various parts of the world and from different eras. I never thought I'd care for a song inspired by the squaredance, but now I do.
I especially liked...
"Zarabanda," which I was first introduced to on a "Pure Moods" compilation; but other good songs include "Corrente" (just wait until they yell, "Aya-aya!"), "Rain Dance" (utterly gorgeous), "Ein Wiener Walzer" (a wonderful waltz-inspired piece), and "Dos A Dos" (the aforementioned squaredance-inspired piece--give it a chance, it's better than it sounds).
I didn't like...
This album isn't quite as consistently good as the previous two, thus some of the songs drag a little. The tracks mentioned above are the true standout ones.
When I finished n/a this CDs & Vinyl I wanted to...
Listen to more Adiemus! (There are two more albums so far following this one, but neither is quite as good.)
This CDs & Vinyl made me feel...
Good for investing more time in Adiemus, though I do wish they would have tried a little harder.
The n/a of this CDs & Vinyl...
Is Adiemus, a group of women led by singer Miriam Stockley. Karl Jenkins is the composer, while the London Philharmonic returns once more to provide the music.
I recommend this CDs & Vinyl because...
If you liked Adiemus I and II, you'll likely enjoy this as well, as the same influences are still there. This CD is good for fans of New Age, classical-crossover, and world music.
I don't recommend this CDs & Vinyl because...
As much as it pains me to say it, again, this CD isn't as strong as the first two...but it's better than the last two. Perhaps other listeners will enjoy the other songs more, but on those tracks there simply isn't the emotional punch of the earlier albums. Some songs come across as light and fluffy and devoid of much meaning.
Further Comments...
Despite comments above, I do recommend this CD, especially in conjunction with "Songs Of Sanctuary" and "Cantata Mundi," as these three represent the best of Adiemus so far. The followup albums, "The Eternal Knot" and especially "Vocalise," are much weaker in comparison, with the loss first of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and then of lead singer Miriam Stockley. I do feel Adiemus could have regained their former greatness even without these two--they do, just briefly, on those two remaining albums--but Jenkins no longer seems quite as interested in utilizing the same musical angle as before. That having been said, this is just my opinion and other people may feel much differently. --- The lyrics to these songs are in the "made-up" language that Adiemus is so well known for, and can be found here: http://www.adiemus.f2s.com/extra/dancesoftime.htm
