Summary of this Book...
Have you ever wanted to travel to Great Britain but couldn't afford it? Did you ever want to know more about the British people? In this book, Bryson, an American who lived in England for about 20 years, takes a walking/public transport tour of Britain before he leaves to return to the U.S.

This book had me rolling on the floor laughing, right from the start.
This type of Book is good for...
people who like England, Scotland, and Wales, or people who like to read travelogues, or nonfiction books about travel.
I especially liked...
the voice Bryson writes in. He is HILARIOUS! I started reading this book at work on my lunch break, and could hardly stifle my laughter.
I didn't like...
that he was visiting so many places that they all started to run together after awhile. Also the book had no map, so I wasn't exactly sure about the relative placement of one town to the next. In addition, Bryson seems to do a little too much pontificating about the ugliness of a lot of the buildings built in the 1960s & 70s. From what he writes in this book, a lot of the typical things foreigners think of as English (like tidy bucolic farmland divided by hedgerows) has disappeared due to development. A lot of stuff has been torn down or remodeled in concrete. He apparently doesn't think that the land management societies are doing enough to preserve ye olde Englande.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
go to England and tour it like he did.
This Book made me feel...
good. It was like I had traveled all over Britain without leaving home.
The author of this Book...
is Bill Bryson, who also wrote a great book about Australia called "In a Sunburned Country." He has written many other travel books.
I recommend this Book because...
you will be laughing out loud!
