Summary of this Book...
Young Ender must leave behind his family for the cold world of space where he'll train with other children to become the future leaders for the next war against imminently invading aliens.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone age 8 and up, definitely not just kids. Adults will get completely into the depth of the story, while kids will merely be entertained until they're old enough to grasp the fine points.
I especially liked...
The human touch by Card is uncanny. He digs deep and connects the reader emotionally with the hero. I learn new things about Ender's persona and cry for him again every time I re-read this book.
I didn't like...
None of Card's other books compare with this one, even though this was supposedly a prelude to his main series (kinda like "The Hobbit" was to "Lord of The Rings").
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Rip up all my old stories and remake all my heroes and villains with many facets of personality like Card does. It's not a black & white battle of good versus evil. I grew up as a writer as fast as Ender grew from child to soldier.
This Book made me feel...
Intense sadness despite triumph. Can we ever understand the trials of true heroes?
The author of this Book...
Has since released a decent companion book ("Ender's Shadow") but I still maintain that no other of his books satisfy after you read this one.
I recommend this Book because...
I know my friends will look past the sci-fi coloring and appreciate the true depth of human spirit to be found here.
I don't recommend this Book because...
The cover is kinda generic and doesn't really have anything to do with the book. It looks like someone said "Hey Mike, gimme a sci-fi drawing, okay? because part of this occurs in space."
Further Comments...
I would pay my friends to read this.
