Summary of this Book...
Josarian has survived his trip into the volcano to become the Firebringer of phrophetic acclaim, only to be murdered at the hands of some of his one-time aliases. He becomes a martyr for the cause of independence, spurring Tansen and Mirabar into full-scale revolutionary fervor. The conspiracies and back-stabbing betrayals keep the reader hooked until the very last page, which then makes reading the third book of the series an absolute necessity. The foreign influence is starting to leave, being plot point numero uno of book 1--but now the people of Sileria face an even worse tyranny from the less-than-esteemed Water Lords. Freedom is not free.
This type of Book is good for...
Seeing how people (characters) can turn on each other and stab their friends in the back for their own personal gain. At some points I would not be surprised to find characters running through the streets wearing "Trust No One" t-shirts.
I especially liked...
I think I was a little bit infatuated with Tansen when I read this whole series.
I didn't like...
Mirabar and Elelar, and the rest of the silly-named female characters. For some reason I had an issue with the way Resnick named her ladies.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Marry Tansen. Okay, okay, I'm kidding. Run out and buy the last book. I simply could not be left hanging at the end of this book with the promise of what was yet to come. Sileria must be freed!
This Book made me feel...
Though there is an awful lot of betrayal and greed throughout the host of the majority of characters, there is enough human spirit and selflessness in Tansen & Co. to redeem the rest and make me want to cheer for the downtrodden.
The author of this Book...
Seems to rely on charicatures of female stereotypes rather than really creating sympathetic characters.
I recommend this Book because...
If you've read book 1, no way can you NOT read 2 & 3.
Further Comments...
Enough said. The entire series is inspiring and gut-wrenching. You really feel for Tansen and Josarian and the plight of the common person.
