Aurinia, the daughter of a German Chieftain, is presented with an amulet at birth by a holy woman. She is captured by the Romans and forced to fight as a gladiatrix (a female gladiator). She befriends a Roman senator and the emperor's most trusted advisor, who wears an identical amulet.

This book is excellent for ancient history lovers.

I loved the rich descriptions. I have never read anything like this. Each sentence spoke of the countless hours the author spent researching. The characters were brought to life in a way I have never before experienced. Donna Gillespie successfully made me feel like I was in the Coliseum with Auriane, following her every move and feeling her every emotion.
