Summary of this Book...
Lee Fiora, from South Bend, Indiana, has gotten a scholarship into one of the most prestigious private high schools in the country called Ault. It's a boarding school, which means she has to leave home (not something her parents really liked, but if their daughter says it's okay, then they have to support her as best as possible.) She's smart, but considers herself an outcast of sorts. She battles with her sexuality (in the beginning of the book, she swears she's attracted to the female head prefect), but later seems to settle into the school life. There are your stereotypical hot jock and pretty blond girl who are the school's hottest couple (and somehow Lee ends up 'dating' the jock in some bizzare relationship), as well as all the 'adventures' and events that shape a young girls's life from freshman to graduation.
This type of Book is good for...
Young adults or folks who like melodrama, high school based stories, or coming of age tales.
I especially liked...
The setting of the story for some reason, stood out to me. I enjoyed seeing Ault, its halls, its surroundings and the way the characters became a part of it. I also enjoyed the relationship between Lee and her father. It's a love-hate relationship where they come at a crossroads and yet at the end of the day, you know they still love each other dearly.
I didn't like...
The cliche scenarios and familiar storyline of being alienated. The story seemed to slow down in some parts and became quite tedious to read.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Find something completely different to read!
The author of this Book...
Curtis Sittenfeld
I recommend this Book because...
If you want a semi-heavy summer reading - one that should connect with teenage girls who are going through such difficulties in high school - then this is the book for you.
