Summary of this Book...
Readers expecting a book of similar insight and outstanding quality as the same author's "CinemaScope Two: 20th Century Fox" and "CinemaScope 3: Hollywood Takes the Plunge" are going to be somewhat disappointed by this initial volume in the series. Admittedly, there is a brief overview of CinemaScope and other wide-screen processes (hidden in a review of an obscure little film called "You Lucky People", that was never released in the USA anyway), but the author wastes a lot of space reviewing, describing and detailing minor films and foreign films that will not interest most readers except those really dedicated movie buffs that groove on titles like "And God Created Woman", "Comanche Station", "Gorilla at Large", "McCabe and Mrs Miller", "Morituri" (this film also features an extensive amount of CinemaScope history that is hidden in its review), "No Love for Johnnie", "No Sun in Venice", "Pal Joey", "Plunder Road", "The Swan", "They Came to Cordura" and "The Yellow Rolls Royce". Of course, that's just a sprinkling, but you get the idea. The really famous CinemaScope films like "The Robe" and "How To Marry a Millionaire" are saved for Volumes Two and Three.
