Eight-year-old Carrie takes us through her tale of childhood fantasy, the realism of abuse at the hands of her step-father, Richard, and the damage one event or person can induce in a young person's life. She shares her story with Emma, her six-year-old sister, who is always there for Carrie when she needs her most.

The realism of the story. The ending is a little cliche, but the idea of two little girls experiencing the pain and trauma of an evil step-father is heartbreaking, especially because they are two lovable, adorable characters.

Read it again. The ending makes you go back to pick up the pieces.

This book made me cry. It was heart breaking, to say the least.

Elizabeth Flock comments frequently on her books that they are far from what she experienced as a child: they're about abuse and pain. Her writing style is phenomenal. The book tears you apart, because she tells you about the good father Carrie and Emma had before she reveals what Richard has done to the girls again.

It was consuming, touching, and extremely well done.

You must try out this book, because the ending alone will blow you away.
