Summary of this Book...
The title, taken from the Linda Ellis poem called 'The Dash,' aptly describes this nonfiction story of how one woman, Stacy, spent 'that dash,' the time between birth and death wherein despite fighting a losing battle with cancer, she did much to increase awareness, to espouse the necessity of mammograms and to show that no matter the odds, being the best you can be is the only way to be.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who is fighting cancer can find much in this book to help maintain their own positivity!
I especially liked...
SHMILY--See How Much I Love You...the sharing of special gifts, surprises and smiles when needed, unexpected, and necessary for both the givers and the receivers.

I also liked the idea of the 'Cancer Cards' which are similar to a 'Get Out of Jail Free' card in that they could be used for a variety of reasons 'just because.'
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Give the author a hug. While she tells the story of her sister, also shining through, although subtly, quietly is a story of a sister's love, of the joy in her sister's life.
This Book made me feel...
Sad, yet smiling. Hopeful and inspired!
The author of this Book...
Sandy lives in the Chicago area, where she writes and is a member of the Schaumburg Scribes writers group. Her book she is writing is about her Sister Stacy who tragically lost her battle with Breast Cancer in 2009. Her sister was very well known in the Central Michigan area. Sandy has enjoyed writing all of her life and worked as a ghost writer, developing the memoir of the famous boxer Muhammad Ali s first family. She also has defined herself through her talents in drawing and art. Seeing Stacy s Dash come to life and being released in print has proven her proudest accomplishment behind being a mother to three beautiful children. Sandy s writing has moved her and her family forward through their grief of losing her sister. And offered her a way to honor her sister and keep her sister s memory and messages going out to the world.
I recommend this Book because...
It is a refreshingly candid story of a woman's journey with breast cancer, told both in her sister's words and with the use of Stacy's own journals, notes and letters.
