Summary of this Book...
Thus Spoke Zarathustra is a philosophical novel written by Friedrich Nietzsche. The story follows Zarathustra, the main character, as he travels and teachers about life and death. Although the original work was released in four different publications, this particular book has them all in one collection.
This type of Book is good for...
This is not an easy read. It requires a lot of thinking, sinking in, and regurgitation. I would recommend this book to anyone serious about philosophy. As a warning, it can be somewhat depressing in parts. Nietzsche has a very nihilistic style to his writing.
I especially liked...
One of the best parts about this is how Nietzsche doesn't hold any punches. I think he tends to capture what we all feel deep down (at one point or another) and strings it together with some amazing word choice.
The author of this Book...
Friedrich Nietzsche was a German writer, philosopher, and cultural critic among other things. Much of his writing has to do with examining religion and culture, and is done so with amazing metaphor and irony.
I recommend this Book because...
Nietzsche has a way of captivating harsh truths and realities through philosophical thinking and metaphor. It is such an iconic and important read, and that is why I would recommend it to any mature reader.
Further Comments...
Again, this is not an easy read, at least I didn't think it was. Since it was originally written in German, there is a lot of notes about translation. Even with the best of translators and experts behind this book, there is simply some terms that cannot be translated fairly. I found myself looking up most of the more arguable translations as to better help me own understanding of Nietzsche's true meaning.
