Eowyn Ivey creates a compelling story based on a Russian Fairy tale. The author lives in Alaska, and when reading her prose you can't help but fall in love with the lilting, magical, scenery in her debut novel.

An elderly couple moves to Alaska, the wife determined to abandon and sever all roots. What she doesn't expect is the loneliness. She and her husband fashion a child from snow. In the morning, the statue has vanished without leaving a single footprint.
