Summary of this DVD...
The Campbells travel back and forth, many miles round trip, for their son's cancer treatments. After the mother tires of the miles, and seeing how much her son suffers on the ride back, she looks tirelessly for a home they can afford. She has a hard time finding a home, when one day on her way back from treatments, she comes across a home being renovated. The home not yet advertised, she stops and does a quick walk-through. She calls the owner and is surprised by how cheap the home is. Jumping on a deal too good to refuse, they buy the house and move in. The basement is big, but has a section in the back, with medical tables, equipment and a big freezer - when they realize the house they bought is a remodeled mortuary - still with some original equipment. Deciding not to share it with the kids, as not to scare them, she moves Matt, her son with cancer and the younger brother into the basement. What follows is a horror-filled nightmare for the boys, especially Matt. His personality totally changes as he spends time in the back part of the basement a lot, journaling in his notebook (which in no way could be his writing) and withdrawing into himself. As if the house being a mortuary was not enough, they find out that it was used in evil, sinister seances and devil worship. The boys try to tell the parents that the house is haunted, but of course the parents do not believe a word of it. But after they admit Matt into a psych ward, he warns them that it will now come for the rest of the family, since he is gone. He couldn't have been more right.
This type of DVD is good for...
Anyone who enjoys horror, especially paranormal movies. Also, for those who like to watch movies based on true life experiences.
I especially liked...
That I had seen this story on History Channel's, "The Haunting" as a Documentary. I enjoyed watching the movie and reflecting back onto the documentary for comparison. They did a pretty good job. Of course, with all movies, they added to the story for dramatic reasons, but all and all, not too bad.
I didn't like...
How the mother behaved. I could have just slapped her. While the mother on the documentary had some similarities, I felt the 'movie mother' was a bit colder.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
To find other true life haunting stories. I enjoy watching ghost reality shows
This DVD made me feel...
Sorry for the family. Especially the son with cancer. How can you put a boy battling cancer down in the basement of an old mortuary, where they did autopsies?
The cast of this DVD...
Virginia Madsen, Elias Koteas
I recommend this DVD because...
It's a good paranormal show, which stays at a good, steady pace. You will not be disappointed. Also, for all who watched the documentary, I believe they'll enjoy comparing the movie
I don't recommend this DVD because...
For anyone who does not like paranormal movies
Further Comments...
Don't be too harsh on the movie for varying from the documentary a bit - it's all to help you stay entertained
