Summary of this DVD...
The Princess Bride (DVD)

The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies.

This is a fun family movie - a modern fairy-tale - created as a classic and growing into exactly that. As the grandfather says at the beginning, it's got "Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles..."

Based on a book by William Goldman and directed by Rob Reiner, their joint venture turned out something memorable.

Lines from this movie are often quoted randomly. I, my children, my grandchildren and folks world-wide have watched this movie so many times, we have many of the lines memorized.

If you want to know if one of your friends has seen it multiple times, you might just say, "Inconceivable." and wait for them to say, "I do not think that word means what you think it means."

The most well known line is probably, "As you wish..."

Early in the movie, we learn with Buttercup that when the farm boy said these words in response to her requests, he was really saying, "I love you."

When she realized she loved him back, the story of true love begins - a story of a true love that survives the fire swamp, rodents of unusual size, the pit of despair and death. True love and revenge join together to storm the castle, rescue the princess and kill the six-fingered man ("My name is Inigo Montoya you killed my father prepare to die.").

The movie ends with the kiss “Since the invention of the kiss, there have only been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind.”

And they ride off into the sunset on four white horses...

I've included a couple other quotes in the sections below.
I especially liked...
One of my favorite lines in the movie has become a standard response to complaining in my family:

"Get used to disappointment."
I didn't like...
There is one line in this movie I hate. I have often fast-forwarded through it. I can hear it in my mind as I write this paragraph.

"Mawwage. Mawwage is what bwings us togeva today. Mawwage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam wivin a dweam."
