Summary of this Book...
This story showed a nice slice of life in a small town. The main character, Lucy, is called back to her hometown when her sister passes away. She must shift gears from the high-powered sacrifice of her professional life as a political campaigner to go back to the town she has avoided for many years since she left.
I especially liked...
I enjoyed the setting of the small town with all it's businesses and need for tourism to survive. The information on the dedication and sacrifice of personal life for those individuals working a political campaign was interesting.
I didn't like...
I didn't feel there was any real growth in the main character, Lucy. It seemed she never made any conscience decisions or efforts to change or grow. She left everything up to chance and went with the flow. She only reacted to circumstances and never took action herself because of anything she learned while at home. She started the story at one point and life took her in a direction and she went with it. I never felt as if she cared about her sister, the town, the friends she made, or her love interest. The entire novel felt like a portion of time without any real driving forces. The main character went home because her sister past away. She refused her sister many times when she was still alive to return home. The issues keeping her away never seemed to be that big a deal so she came off as selfish, uncaring, and annoying stubborn for no apparent reason.
Further Comments...
It was an okay read with some interesting things happening along the way. I would have preferred more real depth to the characters. They seemed to skim along life without any real commitment and I felt it should have made more of an impression on the characters decisions. It didn't seem they really decided on anything but rather let the circumstances rule what they did.
