Summary of this Book...
The Enterprise E is on a science mission to find a way to breach the Galactic Barrier. As Star Trek fans will know the outer edge of our galaxy is surrounded by an energy field that is harmful to humanoid life and powerful enough to destroy a starship.

A Betazoid scientist thinks he has found a way to safely breach the barrier, using tensar matrix technology (that appeared in the Star Trek DS9 episode "Rejoined"). His young children are on the Enterprise with him, but he has long since lost interest in them. His all-consuming desire to proceed with his experiment has blinded him to everything else.

Just as the crew of the Enterprise are about to start the experiment they are boarded by Q, the bane of Captain Picard's life. Q warns Picard not to try to breach the Galactic Barrier. Of course, with Q being Q, Picard doesn't know whether to take his warning seriously or not.

Q is joined by his wife, Q, and new born son q, AKA little q, both who appeared in the Star Trek Voyager episode "The Q and the Grey".

The Enterprise is attacked without warning by the Calamarain, a cloud-based space-dwelling lifeform encountered in the TNG episode "Deja Q".

Q realises that Picard won't listen to him about not breaching the barrier, so he abducts Picard, leaving the Enterprise and Commander Riker to cope with Calamarain.

Q takes Jean-Luc on a spectacular journey through Q's young life (back to when he was only a few billion years old!), as he hopes to impress on Picard why the barrier must not be breached.

Or is this all just Q playing another trick on Picard and his crew?
This type of Book is good for...
Any fan of Star Trek
I especially liked...
The way how it is so easy to hear the actors speaking the lines in the book.

The book is also filled with numerous references to events from Star Trek; sometimes it's just a little piece of information mentioned, but other times it's something much more grandiose.

Greg Cox has done a great job on his dialogue and Star Trek lore research. This is a writer who clearly knows his source material.
The author of this Book...
Greg Cox is an American writer of sci-fi.

He has written a vast array of works based on successful films and TV series, from Star Trek, to Terminator, to Batman, to the Librarians.

He has written sixteen Star Trek novels to date.
I recommend this Book because...
It's Star Trek and very much as we know and love it. There is no deviation from established canon and no taint of JJ Abrahms heresy.
