It took me until, probably, 2/3 of the way through this book to say I was enjoying it. From the start, I didn’t like any of the characters. I think that was part of my problem with it. I mean, sure, you don’t like serial killers. But, they do need to have some charisma to make their stories interesting. And the narrator has zero charisma (at least, not until the turning point running up to the end) and the “lovely wife” is completely vile with nothing likeable about her.

So why did I keep reading? Honestly, because my husband recommended this to me, and I didn’t want to give up on it. There is a fantastic twist, and from there on, the book changed up a gear. It became much more exciting. The ending is brilliant. I really enjoyed the last third of the book.

Most of it, if I’m honest. The narrator, I found myself wanting o slap many times. I was disappointed at how lacking in charisma he is. I could understand if it was to highlight the contrast between him and his wife, but was not written any better.

Disappointed. I read a lot of good things about this book, and it didn’t live up to any of them.

Meh.
