Summary of this Book...
This story tells of a young girl, Lesley Brooke, who grows up in a convent in France. She doesn't know anything of her father, but adores her mother. Her mother finally comes for her from the convent when she turns nineteen only to tell her that, she is going to stay with her father for a year. During that time she is not to communicate with her mother. After that one year with her father, she is to live with her mother for a year, and later decide which of her parents she would prefer to live with.

The story is woven such that the reader knows each character's motive behind their his/her actions. You learn to love Casper Brooke for who he is, and Lady Alice too despite the differences. Lesley grows to love her father and wants both of her parents and does not to choose between them.

The story ends leaving the reader with a good feeling, as all the good people end up happy and the villains... well, the got their due although one cannot help feeling rather sorry for Francis Trent since in the end one would realise that he wasn't really a bad sort.
I didn't like...
The fact that Mary Trent, ended up betraying the good and honourable Casper Trent. Although she loved her husband and wanted to protect him, I felt that feigning ignorance would have been a better alternative to the one she chose.
This Book made me feel...
Happy that at least all the good people ended up happy. Although I wished that Oliver Trent hadn't died. Death is sometimes too easy a way out for villains.
The author of this Book...
