This book is about a woman named Tess, who has very bad luck when it comes to men, and doesn't benefit much at all from the history of her last name.

I suppose it's good for anyone wanting to read more classics, and to get a good understanding of literary history.

The end.

Without giving too much away, the book read very slowly for me, but I was impressed by many of the bold choices made toward the end of the story that didn't really seem to fit the tone.

There were many characters I didn't like.

While this did make me sympathize more for Tess (which I believe was the point) I did get very angry over her choice of love interest, and the way she handled all of the injustices.

Talk about it, and have someone who had read it who wanted to discuss the end.

Lots of things over the course of reading it. Sometimes I was bored, but there were moments where I was genuinely surprised, sad, or angry on behalf of Tess. There were times I was very immersed.

It's a classic. I think even if you don't like the entire book, there will something you can appreciate about what it meant in its time - and there are some real surprises in there.

It's not for everyone. Many sections are dry, some are infuriating, and even though I took a lot of literary notes from it, it wasn't the book that made me think too deeply or learn anything about myself or contemporary society.
