Summary of this Book...
This book is about a family that deals with actual monsters but most of them don’t even really realize it. Their whole lives are affected by mental illness, obsession with h.p. Lovecraft, and haunted houses but as more people disappear and life gets weird, could the monsters have anything to do with it? It’s hard to summarize this book without giving anything away, but explore the minds of a family with so much more in the closet besides dirty laundry.
This type of Book is good for...
I think people who like mysteries and exploration of the human mind in odd circumstances would enjoy this book. Delving into thought processes of those around us and ourselves while dealing with such huge issues is fascinating.
I especially liked...
I liked how the author displaced from the story when doing flashback memories of some of the characters. It would mix present time issues with past issues and current events making the dark scene of flashbacks a multi-temporal experience. Especially from different points of view.
I didn't like...
There actually isn’t anything I disliked about the book it was just written in a different style and was written in a different style of story-telling than I’m accustomed to which made it an awkward but also a nice experience to have. We get so used to reading our favorite authors that sometimes it becomes hard to digest other styles of writing. This brought me out of that shell of being afraid of trying new authors.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
To know more about "The City". This is a place the book barely touches on and probably for good reason, but it left me quite curious of what this place is like more often during normal business hours and fully “aware”.
This Book made me feel...
Fascinated. The characters were realistic and truly faulty people but that didn’t make you care any less about them, it made them feel more human and less perfect. Especially the main character. When the “Hero” is way beyond being perfect it makes the book more relatable. No, we may not share in his odd problems but the choices we make may not feel so weird or bad when we look at how we may act in such strange situations.
The author of this Book...
Is someone I’d never heard of. After a little research, I found out this is actually this author’s first novel.
I recommend this Book because...

It’s different. It’s not a book where everything is rainbows and sunshine. Everything doesn’t turn out perfect but turns out "realistically".
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you want something that makes you feel hopeful and bright through the whole story then this isn’t the novel for you. This family lives through issue after issue and not everyone overcomes all the time.
Further Comments...
An interesting storyline written in an interesting style that left me wondering what the big picture was all the way until the end. Makes it difficult to describe the true inner story without giving secrets away. I enjoyed this trek with a new author, especially to find out he himself is a newbie author. It's encouraging.
