Summary of this Book...
A former special forces soldier turned limo driver becomes embroiled in the complicated life of a skateboarder-turned-mogul and his less-than-legal means of making it to the top.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like stylish, character-driven mystery/thrillers.
I especially liked...
The writing style the author uses, as well as the character development. Everyone in this book leapt off the page and was unique and well-drawn.
I didn't like...
The asides to the reader peppered throughout the book. There were a few too many for my tastes.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
See if the author had written anything else. I also wanted to go back and check out all of the TV shows he created and study the episodes that he wrote to find similarities in style.
I recommend this Book because...
It was a fun, entertaining mystery/thriller, and one of the few books that I took my time to get through because I was enjoying the actual read so much.
Further Comments...
I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, there were a lot of things about the actual writing that I didn't like, especially all the inner jokes in the protagonist's head, and the odd choices the author makes with several elements of the book. That said, this was also a book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading, and the author (who I've been a fan of since his early TV work) has a distinct voice and style. This is one of the rare books where I found myself not wanting to skip or skim anything, lest I miss a particularly amusing turn of phrase or detail that I wasn't expecting. Overall, I think this was a flawed novel but also shows enough promise that I would definitely check out another book from this author.
