Summary of this Book...
Rick Riordan created a mythical fantasy set in a modern day world where the kids of the Gods live together at a protected camp and go on quests. These half-bloods learn about their heritage and their special gifts. The story shares the facts and characters of ancient Greek myths, complete with battles, and quests. Olympus is set in New York!
This book features Perseus the son of Neptune, though he does not know it at first. He goes on a quest and meets such creatures as Medusa, Cerebrus, Charon, and Hephaestus. He is a boy who does not fit in, has ADHD and dyslexia and finds out they can be super powers!
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who likes myth and magic and adventure. Young people would enjoy it as the characters are relatable.
I especially liked...
I admire that Riordan has the main hero have ADHD and dyslexia as we get to see those as a different way of being and seeing rather than a label. It can inspire young people who struggle with learning because of these specialities.

Full of fast action, surprises, humour, dangers at every turn, the writing is appealing and kept me reading. I appreciated the creativity in fitting the mythological devices into a modern setting. Young people would enjoy reading and learning at the same time. Great way to learn about myths.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read more of the series! And refer them to some young folks I know.
The author of this Book...
Rick Riordan was born in June 5, 1964, taught Middle School for 15 years, is married to Becky and has two sons.
He first told the made up stories to his young son, who was also struggling with ADHD. He carried on from there to write a whole series of books that made him a popular author worldwide.
I recommend this Book because...
The book is educational in terms of ancient myths and friendships. It makes it ok to be different, have different ways to look at things and solve problems. The characters are relatable and even deal with missing parents, unique perspectives and growing up to find themselves and their gifts.
