Summary of this Book...
I was excited to read this book. I’d read some great reviews about it, and a lot of them were written by my favourite authors in this genre. Unfortunately, I’m just not feeling the love.

The plot was good, and I loved the twists, of which there are many. This book was cleverly thought-out, and paced just right. It definitely kept me guessing. Some of the twists, I guessed, some I didn’t. They were complete genius. I did enjoy the book. I just felt it wasn’t as gobsmackingly-fantastic as I had expected.

I think part of the problem was that I didn’t like any of the characters all that much. Julia grew on me as the story progressed. And I Lewis, also. But, that’s it. Actually, I did really feel for Lewis. He was the best character.

Just a little something that bugged me. The plot takes place in and around Bristol, U.K. The characters are all British. But there’s a couple of places where the author uses an American name or term for something. I didn’t understand why.

A quick plot summary: A report of a missing woman, but the main police officer is threatened to plant evidence that will get someone not connected with the crime arrested. Julia (DCI Day) feels dreadful, she’s always prided herself on her honesty. But this time, she does the wrong thing.

All in all, I’m not sure why I didn’t enjoy this as much as I expected. Maybe my expectations were too high. It is a clever plot. That is the best thing about it. Overall, though, I would say it is average.
This type of Book is good for...
People wanting quick, easy reads. People who like psychological thrillers. People who like ingenious plot twists.
I especially liked...
The plot twists. Actually, the whole way the plot is planned and structured is good.
I didn't like...
The characters. Also, the author’s writing didn’t grab me or, even, strike me as all that wonderful.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read some cozy, clever mystery. Agatha Christie.
This Book made me feel...
A bit irritated in places, but at the author’s writing, and not the plot. The last fifty pages were incredibly tense, and that was great.
The author of this Book...
Gillian McAllister. I haven’t read anything else of hers. I wasn’t impressed.
I recommend this Book because...
The plot. The plot. The plot.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Well, I kind of do recommend it because I want to see if I really am the only person who didn’t love it.
