Summary of this Book...
Sue Perkins writes her memoir, and, my, what a life she's had so far. She tells us about her childhood, moving onto her university days (were she met her comedy co-presenter Mel), onto adulthood with all the heartbreak and joy being human brings.
This type of Book is good for...
Fans of Sue Perkins. People who like reading humorous memoirs. Anyone who is interested in learning more about Sue, and, also, just about reading someone's story.
I especially liked...
My favourite story was the one of the "World's Most Dangerous Roads" programme she filmed with Liza Tarbuck. I loved how well they got along (and, having seen the TV show, their rapport shone through). This story is hilarious. The way Liza diverted an attack by angry locals simply by the magnificence of her breasts is so funny.
I didn't like...
There were a couple of places near the end where I got a little bored. That might have been because I was reading in bed and was tired.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Watch Sue on "Taskmaster" again. Maybe some "Bake Off" where she was presenting with Mel.
This Book made me feel...
Amused. Happy. I came away with a lot of admiration for Sue. She worked hard to get to Cambridge and then to get her career.
The author of this Book...
Sue Perkins. She is a British comedian and presenter. Her long-time partner is Mel Giedroyc. The two are fab together.
I recommend this Book because...
It's funny. You don't need to know who Sue Perkins is to appreciate her fantastic writing. Her stories are relatable.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Some people may not like the parts where she speaks of her sexuality. It didn't bother me, but, I thought I would point it out.
Further Comments...
Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc first appeared on our TV screens in the late nineties, when they presented a magazine-style show called "Light Lunch." Since then, Sue has taken part in many panel shows. She presented the "Great British Bake Off" with Mel for a few series. The two of them together are a delight to watch. They complement each other perfectly, and you can see their genuine deep friendship.

But Sue has also taken part in a lot of different shows on her own. She won a show called "Maestro." This was a show where celebrities were taught how to conduct and orchestra. Sue was naturally brilliant, and after she won the show, she went on to conduct at the "Last Night of the Proms."

A personal favourite of mine is her recent appearance on "Taskmaster." She didn't do very well, but we got to see the kind and humble side of her in the way she supported others.

It was interesting to read how she won her place at Cambridge. Everyone (including teachers) had told her there was no way she could ever o to Cambridge. So, she decided that Cambridge was where she would go. And, thank goodness, she did because that is where she met Mel.

The most heartbreaking part of this book is where spoke of her dogs. Pickle, her beloved girl made me so happy when she began speaking of her. But, the part where Sue had to make the most dreadful decision to let her go brought tears to my eyes. She writes so exquisitely about her girl. I think anyone who read this would fall in love. And let's not forget Parker. He brought a smile to my face.

One last thing to say about this book is that Sue is a very gifted writer. She is incredibly self-effacing and humble, and it's so nice to read a celebrity with her outlook. She actually seems a little lacking in confidence, and I think that is why she demonstrates her blustering bravado in public so much. It endears her to the reader even more. She is the kind of person I would love to have as a friend.
