I really liked this book. I've had it on my to-read shelf for a while (an actual paperback copy of the book on my actual, physical bookshelf!), and there was just something super-enjoyable about turning the physical pages of an old-fashioned gothic novel that's being read in bed late at night.

The basic premise is that a wealthy socialite (Noemi) receives a disturbing letter from her cousin, who married into a family that lives in a remote rural estate. She goes to visit and investigate and discovers that something isn't just wrong with her cousin; the entire family she's married into and the country estate they live in have a supernatural secret. Ultimately, Noemi learns that secret and, once she does, the family is intent on keeping her there with them forever.

The author does a really great job creating a creepy, mysterious atmosphere throughout the novel, and her style of writing is detailed without being overwritten. It took me a little while to get into the story during first hundred or so pages, but the quality of the writing kept my interested until I was racing through pages to figure out how it ended.

I don't want to spoil too much about this book because I think discovering the story as you read is a big part of what I liked about the book... but with autumn coming (and especially Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos), if you're in the market for a well written, spooky read, this one is definitely worth your time. I also have another book by the author on my Kindle, and I think I might jump into that one in October as well, in hopes that it has a similar vibe that I can enjoy as Halloween approaches.

I definitely recommend this book; it might end up being one of my top books of the year. *ThumbsUp*
