Summary of this Book...
Carl Phillips shares his thoughts about writing from a different point of view. He does not write lessons about how to write but shares his views about the writing life discussing ambition, stamina, and other factors that influenced his life as a writer and showing how it worked into his writing days. It gives insights into political and emotional and other reactions and thoughts. It does not emphasize lessons on writing although these are touched upon because of relevance when explaining other topics. This book is short but thorough in covering the varied topics.
This type of Book is good for...
Learning about the writer and how he sees the world and thinks in relation to writing gives writers food for thought and is encouraging.
I especially liked...
I liked knowing more about writing from a personal inside view of the inner workings and the thoughts in relationship to the world and its effects and his reactions to them.
I didn't like...
There is nothing I didn't like but sometimes my attention wandered and I had to refocus.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
I wanted to learn more about poetry and how I could create and express it better. I also am a bit more focused on the emotions inside and outside and want to write about them clearly and concisely so readers are better able to understand what I'm sharing with them.
This Book made me feel...
I felt I was a better writer after reading this book because of the topics detailed that usually are not considered when reading a book about writing.
The n/a of this Book...
This book allowed me to see a different point of view(s) about the writing I had not considered before. It helped me to learn that considering them is valuable and can help improve my life and writing.
I recommend this Book because...
It is a short book but is jampacked with great advice, and insights, and the vies points open up a world in living color that is exciting and very interesting for anyone who wants to have a fuller and more enjoyable life.
I don't recommend this Book because...
This book is not a how-to-writing book in the usual concepts of what people expect. It also is not a biography. It is more of an inside and different viewpoint of a writer's life based on environment, creativity, reactions to the environment, and thoughts about his world.
Further Comments...
He is honest and forth coming with many life experiences, thoughts, and hopes. I got to know him through this book.
