Hi Everyone!

It's difficult to find the time to participate and contribute, but my desire to write about specific things is growing strong within. I'm about to burst with ideas, but have virtually no professional writing experience and want to accomplish a few things:

1) Write about controversial topics that are not getting the attention they need
2) Write about those topics in a way that gets buy-in from the reader through relatability and empathy
3) Propose solutions that may not be rooted in academics or science
4) Share details about how those solutions might actually work

I'm on the fence about whether to write essays, well-researched articles, novels/novellas, or all three.

Here are some of the topics I want to write about:

- The teachings of religion around sex and sexuality and how they have become a breeding ground for pedophilia in the United States and abroad

- The rise of sexual objectification of children in the US, beginning with Shirley Temple playing adult roles and the terrible things she experienced as she approached puberty. Judy Garland experienced similar things when filming 'The Wizard of Oz'. I can't help but see a sick, dark undercurrent here.

- How the way we're dealing with sexual abuse in this country makes things worse and gives it way too much power. Our collective fear and hatred are fodder for 'law and order' politicians and law enforcement careers that trample both victims and perpetrators underneath in their quest for more power and control.

- How we might approach this issue differently by helping victims grow and heal in a way that helps them realize that they are no longer victims, plus help offenders through empathy and compassion while trying to genuinely understand where they're coming from. Most sex offenders were sexually abused when they were children, too.

- I contend that we are steeped in a profoundly toxic sexual culture where innocence is consumed like alcohol and we're all drinking from the same cask.

- We need to examine the Christian underpinnings of our society and culture and the impact that the doctrine of Original Sin has had on all of us throughout the ages. I am still angry at the fact that Christianity took something that was whole and broke it so we would spend our entire lives trying to heal that breaking of our souls. Casting sex and sexuality as Original sin has done more to drive all kinds of sexual aggression and violence far more than any other causal factor.

Thoughts?
To answer your question as to what would be the best way to write about this:

I think you have a few options.

You could create a blog where you post your well-researched articles that you back up with citations.
You can also include blog posts that are simply your own opinion pieces.

Turning your thoughts into novels/novellas might be a good way for you to give yourself more space to think through these topics.

No matter what you do, make sure to always give each item the correct age restriction. Like this post is restricted to 18+ readers - as it should be.
Annette - Thank you for your response. I’m nervous and a little scared to begin writing about these topics, yet I believe that we need a new way to address these related topics.

And yes, definitely for 18+ only.

I have considered a blog and may well do that. Working on a name for the blog and appropriate nom de plume.

Thanks again for your response - it encourages me to write and publish these ideas.
