| Whooo! Boy, that was fun. Been back home for a day now, but I was taking some time to recuperate after that intense experience at the hard rock festival. Got bruises all over my back, both forearms, one on the temple, and my toes are blue. Hah, mostly just sore now. If someone took a video of the mosh, I would've posted it and whoever wanted to could take a guess as to which of the maniacs was me. Anthrax was the only metal band up there, but everyone threw up the devil horns for all of them. *Shrugs* I did enjoy Anthrax the most though, and the highlight for me was "Antisocial". It felt like that song created the most energetic moment in the set. Good news, they're likely to headline next year. Gonna be awesome! |
| Today I'm going to a concert and it's a big one; two headliners about twelve supporting acts one of which includes Anthrax, the band I'm looking forward to the most. I only buy the pit tickets, because that's the only way to experience a concert for me. With all these hardcore, hard rock, and metal bands its guaranteed to be a madhouse. I'm gonna be black and blue the next morning. |
| An amazing, thrashing anthem by the Canadian thrash metal outfit, Razor. The drumming is stellar and the guitars are aggressive with laser precision, and Sheepdog's voice is harsh in its melody, delivering the attitude of the song. Skullcrushing! |
| I thought the idea of a semi-pnumatic tire with pliable inner-hub spokes was MY IDEA for a futuristic off-road tire-fitted vehicle, but it looks like Michelin has been way ahead of me for quite some time. Oh well, I just hope they rename it now. The "tweel" sounds dumb. Call it a semi-rigid, it's self explanatory. Heck, I'll get a set for my Rexy if they ever come out. |

| The 4th of July festival I went to had those two tall ships firing off blank volleys all night until the fireworks show, which was really neat to watch. We had two cover bands playing, the first rocking out to everything; Metallica, Judas Priest, Misfits, White Flag, Ramones, Motorhead, AC/DC (of course, I'd been waiting for that), other stuff, and then they did an encore of an improvised rendition of "Du Hast" from Rammstein. Ended up pretty epic rather than a fail, which the band didn't really expect. Then, when the cannons started firing until the fireworks started, a Led Zeppelin cover band started to play and they freaked out with every loud blast. Lame. So I went and took a friend and two others that I squashed into the back of my Rexy and then motored as close to the pier as we could to get a good view of the show from her hood. We lifted the hatch and started booming an Accept playlist through her speakers. "I'm a Rebel" really fit well. The setup is 2x 4" tweeters, 2x 8" mids and one 12" bass guitar amp. As funny and redneck as the last one sounds, I can get really clear yet heavy bass tones where the thump does not override the clarity. The sound was unbelievably loud and it was a great show, especially for us. Once the 'splosions died, we got in and left, just on time as a cop pulled in who was there for a noise complaint. :3 Oooh! "Nah, it couldn't be that unassuming silver Rexy; it's not low enough, it's rims aren't big enough, and they don't spin!" VROOOM! "Don't ya just know it. I'm a Rebel, COME O-OOOOOO-ON!" |
| So, a few hours from now I'll be heading into town in an attempt to find that true Independence Day spirit that has eluded me every other 4th of July since I learned that firing a .300 WinMags at watermelons is a little more satisfying than firecrackers. Oh, but I do love those Roman candles and how the frat boys and I still find it entertaining to shoot them at the neighborhood pets. That's why I've got a few Franklin's to put down for the 'works. Also the local fireworks show is gonna light up the sky, but it has been getting tamer as the years crawled by; less precise timing, shorter overall length of shows, less variety, and related to the timing issue is that they stopped syncing their shows to music about two years ago. My interest is piqued this year though; talk of the town is this false hope that they're going to sync the show again to AC/DC. Well, I do love me some ye olde tyme rock 'n' roll, so I've got my fingers crossed. The harbor's sailships have been moored for about a week, so it's also a safe bet to say that they're going to be firing off their cannons in the evening. Despite how out of place it may be, when those ships come around, we'll be blasting "Under Jolly Roger" from the car stereo because we'll be at a pirate ren. festival on the 14th of this month. It's as good a time as any to get into the pirate spirit. None of that weak "shiver me timbers" ****cheese. These seadogs are metal warriors. |
| With Zootopia out, I've seen a ceaseless barrage of 'Gazelle' and her music video for "Try Everything". While the antelope pop star may have her DancingWithGazelle app, not everyone in Zootopia is head-over-heels to paste their face to hypermasculine panther ponces to dance with a recorded antelope dressed in nothing but tight blue short shorts. Riot's crowd wants to rock, not pose, wearing jeans and leather, not Cracker Jack clothes. And who is that on the album art? Meet Johnny Tior, the human bodied, baby harp seal-headed, axe-wielding mascot of the band Riot. Also, the reason humanity does not exist in Zootopia. |
| I've been digging around the archives of Encyclopaedia Metallum. Gave a few listens to some staple black metal acts like Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, and Bathory. Nothing really caught my interest. Having listened to Venom before, I never thought I'd be recommending it to any heavy rock fans, but the albums have found their way into my streaming library now. I think this is the start of me getting into the extreme subgenres; through the first wave of black heavy metal. Thundering guitars on tribal-like drums, then in come the harsh vocals through a very 80's style echo effect. Evil, raw, and abrasive. |
Unfortunately, WDC's poorly optimized HTML does not let me designate video start and ending times so I can't choose to only play my favorite song, but this one goes out to Pie Rat  --who is has not logged on for a while due to internet connectivity issues on their end, I have found out--'cause they like all things Montana, and Prophecy just so happens to be from Billings, MT. [[Embed over limit (10).]] And as generic 80s fare this group seems to be, with influences from both Maiden and Priest, there really is a nuance to their sound which sets them apart; really a homegrown kind of feel like you get from Seattle based groups. Not to mention, they are one of the only US bands to crank out an album influenced directly by British heavy metal in 1984. That mostly happened in the late 80s. |
