Hey guys,

I am currently writing a chapter for my novel that is a bit more action-packed.
Or at least I try to make the action fit what is happening. And not have it there just for the sake of it.

It is the first time I am writing something like this, so I was wondering if there was anyone with some free time who could read it and give me some pointers.

It will be far from the best work out there. Though I am pretty content with it at the moment, it most likely needs some more work.

Here is the link to the chapter in Google Doc:
Chapter draft

I allowed suggestions and comments, so feel free to leave any of you have any. It would be much appreciated :)

The chapter is linked to a lot of worldbuilding and events in the past, so it could very well be that some things don't hit the same as they would if you read the whole story. But with my limited knowledge of writing, I think it would still convey the same message.
But I could be completely wrong of course and please correct me if I am.

Im here to learn as well ^_^

Cheers.

Hi,
Only speaking for myself here.
I will not open up a Google doc.
If you want reviews, post them to the site.

You can offer a trade (your book is read and you read someone else's book in return) in "The Great Novel Review Exchange

You can posting your novel in "Please Review and "The Shameless "Plug" Page. Watch your rating! (E, ASR, 13+, 18+, GC, XGC)
I've added a new entry to my book, "Celestial Retribution:
         "Training 2 - It's magic

The final episode of the opening arc of my novel :)
Took me a while to really write to a point I could use to end this opening. Even though it is 16 chapters XD.

The next chapter will be my first time writing a battle scene so will be doing some research and see where this takes me ^_^

Hope you will enjoy this chapter and are looking forward to the next :)

Cheers guys
I've added a new entry to my book, "Celestial Retribution:
"Training 1 - Game of tag

After some brainstorming I decided that I would need some smaller bridging chapters.
Mainly to fill in some small parts that I find are important to mention and that set up small points that are needed later.

They are building towards a new arc in the novel.

Hope you enjoy ^_^

Looking forward to reading your comments
I've added a new entry to my book, "Celestial Retribution:
         "Lighting the fire of revenge

Hey all!
Hope you are doing well.

Chapter 13 is now out and it will be the second last chapter of what I think is the first arc.
Did a lot of introductions and worldbuilding so it is time to move on.

Next chapter I will be introducing magic ^_^
Looking forward to really seeing how that will turn out.

Cheers all and enjoy the latest chapter.
The chapter is somewhat langer than usual but nothing to big I think.

Hi cenvil ,

I have been lucky to have attended several classes put on by Brandon Sanderson and one of his suggestions for magic is to write a separate paper outlining and explaining what and how your magic works. He says he finds it essential even if you don't include a single word from the worksheet in the story. If you have defined the rules and their consequences in your mind before you use magic in the story. it makes a huge difference in the magic's believability. Oh, and he says that many new writers of fantasy forget that having consequences for using magic is a must... the more powerful the spell the higher the pain for using it. It is part of the character arc for the genre.

These days Brandon is now doing chats, classes, and interviews online (YouTube and others) I have learned a lot from him. not enough... true but much more than I thought I would.
Joey's Spring has Sprung
Thanks for the comment.
The funny thing is, I wrote a 3-page long explanation about the magic system before starting to write the story. It is all rooted in a bit of science.

Was fun to do and it set limits to what is possible and the backlash when the user abuses its power.
The novel takes place in a more medieval kind of fantasy setting so they don't have science there. At least not as we know it. So it will be a fun challenge to find out how I will let characters explain how it works.
I don't have it fully worked out yet but that is something I will feel more when I am writing the chapter :)
I've added a new entry to my book, "Celestial Retribution:
         "A short lived peace

Hey guys,
Just uploaded a new chapter.
First episode where I went down a more emotional route.
I have no idea if I wrote it well so I will leave that up to you all *Smile*

But I hope you will enjoy this chapter.
Something is brewing in the background but it's not here yet.
Stay tuned :)
So I just finished a little bit of backstory to a character that is introduced in my story "Celestial Retribution
And though it is really awesome to think about the life someone could have lived, it is also very sad.
In this case someone who lost his wife and later his very young daughter.

The thing is. When I was writing down his history, I had to keep track of what the timeline was with the main story.
And that made me realize I set him up to be even more of an emotional wreck.

Now, I know feeling empathetic is a good skill to have when writing. it helps you see their side and being able to feel what they feel.

But I am feeling like a bad guy now. I am creating a world for a guy that no matter what he did, he kept losing everything. I feel like I am doing this to him XD. Even worse it feels like some sort of torture. As if it keeps resetting his life every time I read it -_-

I don't know how you guys feel when you write a tragic backstory to some character.
But for me I always think of the movie Cats & Dogs and how I could never take my own dog somewhere without thinking he is sick and tired of my .... well I constantly think my dogs are part of a secret organization and they will talk to me just once to mess with my head.

I hope I can redeem myself to the guy in my story before he, for some reason, comes to life and hates my guts XD

Remember that in real life, we learn and grow the most through our challenges, so you're giving him great opportunities. *Angelic* *Bigsmile* Just write him a happy ending (eventually) and it will be fine. *Laugh*
You should be a bad guy, to some extent. Most of my favorite stories are those where life keeps beating the protagonist down, but the protagonist picks himself up and keeps marching forward until eventually life learns to get out of his way.
I've added a new entry to my book, "Celestial Retribution:
"A small light in the dark

OUT NOW: Chapter 12 - A small light in the dark

Took me a while to make this chapter fit with the story and convey the emotion and idea of the character.
It is a pretty sad story that will pass by at some other points in time as well so be ready for that.

Looking to the future, there is something coming soon.

Hope you will enjoy.

Cheers all

Yesterday I finished chapter 12.
Will be posting it tonight.

If all goes well, something will be happening in the next few chapters.
Of course I am not going to spoil what, but I hope you are looking forward to it :)

I have so many ideas for what is possible and where the story will lead. I can hardly wait to get to those points XD
But first we need to get the MC's ready for battle. No revenge without power, I would say
So, I just finished writing the backstory for a character that will be introduced in my story in the next chapter.
A nice.... little story about where he grew up, what he has experienced in life and how he came to live in the place he is now.

I wonder if a writer needs to be a little crazy in the head to come up with ways to give someone messed up things he/she had to deal with.
I mean, It almost feels like I am trying to wreck someones life for sport.....

It does remind me of an anime where characters from manga and tv series jump into our world and get mad at their creators for giving them such bad luck in life XD

Hope mine won't spring out of my screen haha.
I've added a new entry to my book, "Celestial Retribution:
         "Becoming two

And here we are with a new chapter where we find out what happened after the incident with the weird entity.
Took me a bit of re-reading and changing the wordings and all to get the flow of the conversation in the right mood.

Hope you will enjoy it as well :)

Cheers guys.
Time to update my blog for the first time in a while.
Thought I might update you on how my story is going atm and what I am learning ^_^

"personal journey:
         "More lore, more work
Anyone out there in the process of or has written a fantasy story that gets the MC from 1 world to another?

Curious to find some good stories and see what you guys can come up with for your worlds.
Hey all,
I just added 3 new chapters to my book.

I am starting to really enjoy writing the chapters.
The process of creating a character, the way you will introduce them, the layout of the location they are in.
All of it.

I also came up with the name for the world it all takes part in: Barmeya

Be sure to check it out if you have the time.
Curious to what you read your thoughts and speculations on the story *Smile*

Cheers guys and enjoy!

I've added a new entry to my book, "Celestial Retribution:

         "Survival
         "Unexpected hope
