Just so you know, when you post, only your fans (people who have clicked your Plus button) and people on the Community Newsfeed (hardly anyone) will see your posts. I encourage you to click "View the Community Newsfeed" along the top-ish part of your Personal Newsfeed. The Personal Newsfeed is the default newsfeed and is where you go when you click Newsfeed on the left side.
So, click Newsfeed, then find "View the Community Newsfeed" and click that. There you will see what everyone else is posting. This is where you make friends. Start reading, clicking Like, and commenting as you feel appropriate. Over time, people will start getting to know you and will hopefully click your Plus sign. Of course, feel free to click theirs as well. Anyway, once they click your Plus sign, they will now see your notebook (AKA newsfeed) posts on their Personal Newsfeed, where most folks hang out.
Like print authors, we need fans to get noticed. Like pint authors, we have to work to get fans. It takes time, but while you are socializing you can see lots of great things going on around WdC that you might not find out about otherwise.
