So, it's birthday week for WdC - happy birthday   to my fav writing site! - and Tiger Cub 🔱   is hosting a merit badge hunt. So in tracking down of the illusive "Kiwis on WDC!"  by Osirantinous  badge, I looked up the lyrics to a favourite NZ song, Porkarekare Ana. Written below is both the Māori and the English translation. Written during WW1, Porkarekare Ana is a gentle, lilting love song (the sort I normally avoid). I first heard it sung by the stunning Hayley Westenra when I was a teenager and the haunting melody stuck with me, but below I have linked a choir version (which also shows some gorgeous NZ scenery) as I love the men singing the first verse. I actually didn't know the English translation. I learned this song in primary school though.  |

ReplyAfter a (not so-)-brief hiatus from WdC, I'm pleased to announce the Mushroom is back!  Expect to hear far too much about my travels (mostly probably in the form of worlds-based-upon... I've already started a Lake Tititcaca-like world). So, you have been warned; if you chose not to enable fungicide functions on your browser, that is not my problem  |
 There's (yet another) meme going round Facebook at the moment. It's called Pay It Forward. Very simply, the first five people to respond with 'I'm in' will get, over the coming year, five nice little surprises. These can be whatever the original poster decides and can occur at any point in those 12 months. The only stipulation is that the responder then re-posts so that others can join in. The idea is to spread love and happiness and (presumably) fluffy pink unicorns through the multiverse. I happen to think it's actually a beautiful idea and would like to see it spread through WdC. It's all very RAOK So, in order to bring it more in line with WdC, I'm offering the first five respondents the same option - but surprises may include reviews, specially dedicated poems/prose, MB or GP, and (if I have your home address) even random pressies in the post* Or anything else that I think will make us both smile.
