To the fellow writers abroad and near...

I'm writing a research paper for my English 4 course in high school. My English teacher is a lot of help, but considering this is the first time I've ever done one, I'm clueless on how to start the rough draft. The annotated bibs are the only thing I've done, really...so could someone give me some pointers on how to compose a research paper?
Someone need an MLA handbook? Does your school have online tutorials? My son has resources via school to help him. My last research paper was nearly 30 years ago.
