Hi Everyone, Sorry again I have not been on in a while. I am working on a poetry book but more importantly I have been planning my wedding it is on December 16th 2023. We are having it outdoors under a pavilion. The reception is going to be at the bar we met at Molly Miguire's. The wedding is in Montgomery Texas. |
Good Morning, Sorry I have not been on writing.com much. I plan to be here more often. How ever I am in the middle of planning my December 16th 2023 wedding, I am having a country Christmas wedding. I am very excited. I am also still working on my poetry. Life is good I have a tiny home and my dog Sofie and my cat Claire. Texas is so beautiful this time of year. I am not currently working so I will have more time to be here except I need to get better internet service. Have a blessed day! Sheri |

Welcome back! Congratulations on getting married! I hope you have a long and happy union! As for how to do things on here, I'll explain a couple of basics. You should regularly hop on the Community Newsfeed. If you click Newsfeed, on the left, it takes you to your Personal Newsfeed. There, you will only see notes from WdC and from people whose plus you have clicked once or (preferably) twice. There are so many more people and activities out there! At the top of your Personal Newsfeed, you'll see "View the Community Newsfeed." Click that to see what everyone else is posting. Is it always exciting? No. But if you don't check it regularly, you'll miss out when it is. Scroll, Like, comment, and start making friends on the Community Newsfeed. When you meet a person you want to keep up with, double click their plus sign. If you single click it, it sets them as a favorite and you see a finger with the string, but this is private and they don't know you wanted to follow them. If you double click, you see the megaphone and you've become a fan. When you fan them, they are notified (which is why double clicking is better). Some of us (like myself) reward our new fans (and all fans from time to time). But if I'm not notified that you're following me, I can't reward you, thus double clicking to the megaphone is best. Here's the plus I'm talking about. No obligation to double click it, though you are welcome to, of course. But I'm doing this to show you. Schnujo is Late to Lannister If you find a thing you want to keep up with--blog, contest, challenge, etc., you can't double click the plus in the bitem (big item) link as below.
Double clicking that plus would fan me, not my challenge. To fan my challenge (again, no obligation, but I accidentally fanned a bunch of people as a newbie because I didn't know what I was doing ), you click the link and go to the challenge. Then in the upper right corner, double click that plus. Don't double click the plus by the person's name under the title, unless you also want to fan them. But to only fan the item, double click the plus in the upper right corner of the item. It will appear on your Favorites list on the right side anytime it's updated and you'll be able to search it in your Favorites list. The same goes for single clicking, but again, some folks, like me, reward their fans, so double clicking is best. |
I'll explain tagging people and items, then that's really all the basics you need to know to enjoy the site, IMO. To tag a person, there are 3 common ways--user, suser, and huser. Which to choose is mostly personal preference, but if you want folks to email or fan someone, for example, you should use user to make it easier for others. I've demonstrated enough with myself, so I'll use kimauge. I hope they don't mind. I just realized, I don't know if they are a guy or girl. I assumed they were a guy, but maybe not. Anyway, to do any ML code here, you need the curly braces found above the square brackets on your keyboard. Also, don't use spaces in the code, not even after the colon. ML code uses no spaces. Finally, you need their username. The username is how we log on here. The handle is what you see. In my case, my handle is currently "Schnujo's Veiled Evil." (Though it's normally just Schnujo. I changed it for the scary season. lol) To find out a person's username, you mouse over their handle and their username (and the date they joined) is revealed. You use their username to tag them. In the case of kimauge, they currently have the same username and handle. But it can be easily changed by clicking My Account on the left, then Change Handle. Here's the 3 most common ways to tag folks. {user:kimauge} = kimauge {suser:kimauge} = kimauge {huser:kimauge} = kimauge If a person has an Upgraded membership or higher, they are in bold like me. Schnujo is Late to Lannister. To tag an item, there are 2 common ways--item and bitem (big item). You need the 7-digit number between the title and the handle. I'll demonstrate using my reviewing raffle. It's closed, but there are 2 good dropnotes on there to help you learn more about reviewing and how to earn more GPs when you review. I encourage you to take a look. {item:2256964} = "WdC 2023 Birthday Review Raffle - CLOSED" {bitem:2256964}
To me, this is mostly what you need to know to get started. Though kimauge is a newbie, so they may have a different opinion. I encourage you to keep these 2 notes in your email to refer back to them until you're comfortable with the info. Remember to check the Community Newsfeed regularly, preferably daily. Welcome! |
