I've been MIA (life happened).

When did they change the layout? It feels completely different and very pinkish.

Well, I'm back for a bit until life hits again...

I received an email for a free download to Self-Publishing Boot Camp Guide for Authors by Carla King.

If anyone is interested, here's the link. I haven't read it yet, so can't tell you anything about it other than it's aimed at print and ebooks.

I came across this article about writers. A line from it:

"Over the years, I developed a theory about why writers are such procrastinators: We were too good in English class. This sounds crazy, but hear me out."

After reading the article, does any of it sound like you? There are parts where I say, "Yeah, that sounds a little like me."

The best part is probably the end- about the private schools, tutors, etc. Back in high school and middle school, kids would have their tutors do the work for them. And then in elementary school, parents did projects for the kids. *Rolleyes*

I actually struggled in English 9-11 grades because it was honors/AP. Pulled straight As for all English classes though. *Wink*
I'm shifting between college assignments and WDC.

Finally finished the article. It was interesting how the article started with writers, shifted to recent students and college grads, then ties them together.

And where the students are concerned, if the parent can afford it or can someone manage it, they do all of that. Today's parents also go to the school, yell at the teacher for hating her child, demand that the grade be changed from a D or F, and if that doesn't work, demand the principal do something.

A teacher I know told me that in her school the principal told every teacher that they can't use red pens to mark something wrong AND regardless of the true grade they can't give any student less than a C --- in other words, grading system is C to A. So all of those that earned an F or D or C- get bumped up to a C.

For those including in their writing kids/parents - have added research material now.

Thank you to those of you who voted in my poll.

Most selected: I’m for it and anyone legally allowed in this country can benefit from it (green cards, visa holders, registered illegals)

If you want to see the most recent update and complete poll results, you'll need to vote. I'm sorry, but I don't know how to display the results without making everyone vote first. Nothing within "edit" works.

Thanks again!
I read this article about how the English language use to have gender nouns. http://blog.dictionary.com/oldenglishgender/

Do you think we should go back to gender nouns? Or keep "a" as in any and "the" as in that specific one?

Some countries place a separate word before a noun to indicate gender: der, die, das / la, le -- la chair, le table

Some countries change the ending of the word's sound: й / a, я / о, е, or ё -- manй, womana, (it) ito
jannie mentioned that "life was so easy once" which sparked my curiousity about how everyone else felt.

What year/grade/age was the best or easiest between grade school through high school. What was special about that time?
Okay, I'm back. Finished some assignments.

Does anyone have an easy recipe for brie cheese? There was a sale (I know, I know...*FacePalm*), but other than crackers - any ideas? *Idea*

Thanks!!

Thank you! I checked the recipes out and they sound yummy and easy. *Smile*
What do you think of Obama's proposal that the first 2 years of community college be free?

I'm curious to what everyone thinks. Also, I don't see who selected which response - so your answer is a secret.

My first poll - I didn't get many responses, so I thought I'd give it another try. Thanks for checking it out.

Anyone game to take 2 minutes out of their day to answer this poll? Thanks *Smile*

Love your profile. *Laugh*
Thanks. *Smile*

I checked out yours too. Love the images. How'd you add those? Where did you find them?
Hey, have you read Ellen Raskin's The Westing Game?
Nope, haven't read it. Don't even know what it's about.
Though "Westing" makes me think of "wrestling"
