I am fond of the way you have used language to set the mood for the piece. You've painted a clear picture of a man who is lost in the aftermath of a divorce. I would like to see more at stake emotionally -- how do the characters change as a result of this man's decision to give his ex-wife a gift? This feels like a strong character study, but I think you could make an even stronger short story! Keep writing and good luck!
